Imaret’s pride, this generously sized suite is situated in the most private garden of the edifice. Egyptian chandeliers hang over the bed draped in crimson brocade and red velvet and sunken bathtub covered with mosaic. The room boasts a working fire places in the living room and a private terrace right in the edge of the Byzantine wall overlooking the bay of Kavala.

…In addition to the two Medreses Mehmed Ali’s Kavala complex also included an İmaret, or Soup Kitchen, to feed both the students, faculty, travelers  and the poor of the town, regardless of their religion.  Over time the entire Külliye (Complex), came to be known as the İmaret.  Recipients were provided two meals a day and the complex storehouses contained a stock of provisions necessary to meet the İmaret’s needs for a six month period…
